Terms of Use
What you can expect from carilys, and what we expect from you. In plain words, like everything else.
Last updated: September 2026
Preliminary version. These terms are under legal review and may be refined before the end of the pilot project.
What carilys is, and what it is not
carilys is a coordination tool for families caring for a loved one: shared calendar, medication tracking, documents, emergency card, care team and, if you turn them on, automated wellness calls. By creating an account or joining a care circle, you accept these terms and our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
carilys does not give medical advice
Nothing in the app replaces a doctor, pharmacist, nurse or emergency service. The information in it comes from you and your family; carilys organizes it, it does not validate it.
- In an emergency, call 911. Never use carilys to report an emergency.
- Medication reminders and wellness calls are coordination aids. They can be late, miss an event or misunderstand an answer. Decisions about treatment always belong to the care recipient and their health professionals.
- Recommendations shown in the app (for example on caregiver support) are general and do not take your particular situation into account.
Your account
An account is personal. You are responsible for it and for what is done with it.
- You must be an adult to create an account. A young person aged 14 or over may take part in a circle with the agreement of a parent or tutor.
- Keep your password and PIN to yourself. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- The information you enter must be accurate, especially medications, allergies and emergency contacts: other family members rely on it.
- You can delete your account at any time from the app. What that erases, and what it keeps, is described in the privacy policy.
The care circle and information about your loved one
A care circle brings people together around one care recipient. What you put in it is about someone other than you, and that is what makes these rules matter.
- By entering information about your loved one, you confirm you have the right to do so: because the person consents, because you hold parental authority over a child under 14, or because you are legally authorized to act for them.
- Only invite people into a circle who have a legitimate reason to access this information. The role you give them determines what they can see and change.
- Each member is responsible for what they add, change or share. Access to health information is logged.
- A health professional invited into a circle acts under their own professional obligations; carilys does not become their clinical record.
Automated calls
If you enable wellness calls, a synthetic voice calls your loved one at agreed times and alerts the designated members when nobody answers. Here is what you accept by turning this on.
- The call always identifies itself as automated. Your loved one can say "stop" to hang up and turn off future calls.
- You are responsible for obtaining the agreement of the person being called. For a child under 14, the holder of parental authority must have recorded their consent in the profile.
- Calls happen only within the window you set, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Montreal time.
- These calls are an aid, not medical monitoring. A missed call, a misunderstanding or an outage can happen. Do not rely on this feature for someone whose safety depends on an immediate response.
What is not allowed
A few common-sense rules so carilys stays safe for everyone.
- Using carilys for a person without being authorized to, or entering information about someone who is not the circle's care recipient.
- Attempting to access another family's circle, account or data, or to bypass the app's protections.
- Using the service to harass, deceive or harm, or to send unsolicited invitations.
- Copying, reselling or exploiting the service or its content for commercial purposes without our written consent.
Availability, changes and pilot projects
carilys is a young service. We improve it continuously and some features are offered on a trial basis.
- We do our best to keep the service available, but we do not guarantee it will run without interruption or error. Always keep another way to reach your loved one and your emergency contacts.
- We may add, change or remove features. If a change reduces what you can do with your data, we will tell you in the app.
- During a pilot project, the service may have known limits that are communicated to you. Your feedback helps us fix them.
- A free trial may be offered. If it is followed by a paid subscription, the price, renewal and cancellation terms will be shown to you before any payment.
Liability
We take carilys's reliability seriously, but it is only honest to be clear about what software can promise.
- The service is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages, nor for damages resulting from inaccurate information entered by a member, a missed call, a network or device failure, or a decision made solely on the basis of the app.
- Nothing in these terms limits rights the law grants you that cannot be excluded, including those under Quebec's consumer protection and personal information laws.
Ending your use
You can leave whenever you want; we may also close an account in some cases.
- You can leave a circle or delete your account at any time from the app.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, endangers others or compromises the security of the service. We will tell you, unless the law or safety prevents us.
- After closure, information is handled as described in the privacy policy.
Governing law and language
carilys is operated in Quebec.
- These terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and the laws of Canada applicable therein. Any dispute is submitted to the courts of Quebec, unless the law provides otherwise.
- These terms exist in French and in English. In case of discrepancy, the French version prevails.
- We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version; an important change will be announced in the app before it applies.
